What is available in airline service?

Rapid City Regional Airport is seven miles east of Rapid City off S.D. Highway 44. The airport Web site, www.rapairport.org, features up-to-the-minute information on airlines, arrivals and departures, weather, general aviation services, rental cars, air fares and travel agencies.

You also can get updated information about arrivals and departures by telephoning the airport's automated flight information service at 393-2850.
Four carriers now serve Rapid City:

  • Northwest Airlines offers daily service to its Minneapolis hub.
  • SkyWest/Delta Connection offers daily service to the Delta Airlines hub in Salt Lake City.
  • SkyWest/United Express offers daily service to the United Airlines hub in Denver. In addition, United Express also offers seasonal daily, direct, non-stop service to Chicago.
  • Allegiant Air, the newest carrier to enter the Rapid City market, offers year-round nonstop flights between Rapid City and Las Vegas. Currently the summer schedule includes three flights a week, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

 

What intercity bus service is there?

Rapid City is served by two companies, Jefferson Lines and Powder River Trailways. Both are housed at Milo Barber Transportation Center, 333 Sixth St., in downtown Rapid City.

  • Jefferson Lines: Buses arrive at 5:05 p.m. and depart at 8:50 a.m. for daily service to Sioux Falls and points east. For more information, call 348-3300 or log on to jeffersonlines.com.
  • Powder River Trailways: Buses arrive at 8:20 a.m. from Gillette, Wyo., and depart at 5:10 p.m. for Gillette, Cheyenne, Wyo., Denver and points west. Call 348-3300.
  • North-South Shuttle, a new service based in Pierre, offers twice-a-week service to Pierre, Mobridge and Bismarck, N.D. Riders buy a ticket to the Jefferson Lines bus to Pierre, which leaves at 8:50 a.m., then change buses to take the North-South Shuttle headed north. Call 348-3300.

 

What intracity bus service is there?

Each year, Rapid Transit System gives hundreds of thousands of rides on its RapidRide fixed-route bus system and its Dial-A-Ride service for people who qualify under the Americans With Disabilities Act.

RapidRide takes passengers to more than 150 stops along five city routes. Each bus route is roughly an eight-mile loop through a different part of the city. All transfer points are at Milo Barber Transportation Center on Sixth Street between Main and Omaha streets.

For RapidRide, the cost is $1 for adults and students or 50 cents for the elderly and disabled. Monthly bus passes are $25. For Dial-A-Ride, the cost is $2, and riders must call 24 hours in advance.
