Fireworks at Mount Rushmore
The fireworks show on July 3 at Mount Rushmore has become one of the most well-attended events in the region. If you are going to be among those who are drawn to Mount Rushmore for this spectacular, highly anticipated event, here are some tips:
- Expect delays because of heavy traffic and security checks.
- The gates open at 7 a.m., and in recent years, the parking garage has been full by 11 a.m. After that, visitors park along S.D. Highway 244 or U.S. Highway 16A. Carpooling is a good idea.
- Entertainment begins at noon, and the fireworks begin at 9:15 p.m. Wear light-colored clothing and bring a flashlight to use when returning to your car if you park some distance from the monument.
- Don’t bring pets, barbecue grills or your own fireworks.
- Expect some delays as well when leaving.
