Building a City: Deadwood Begins, the first 50 years
Adams Museum releases 2008 collectible wall calendar
Exhibits, public programs, publications, lectures and community outreach activities planned for 2008 at Deadwood’s Adams Museum and the Historic Adams House will focus on the theme Building a City. To kick off the series the AM&H 2008 calendar Building a City: Deadwood Begins, the first 50 years is now available. The publication is also a benefit of membership. The calendar explores Deadwood during its first 50 years, tracing the full range of history in the Gulch -- from a lawless tent city to a wealthy, upstanding business community.
The calendar features a photographic timeline of Deadwood’s many historic faces -- some brick and mortar, some famous and many forgotten. Constructed around core images of the city’s Main Street supplemented by numerous historic photographs of people and places, Building a City chronicles Deadwood’s evolution from a rough and tumble mining camp to the very model of a modern Western city to a renowned tourist attraction, all in its first 50 years. Deadwood has always been a city with the unique ability not only to build and invent, but when necessary, to rebuild and reinvent, and ultimately to survive.
This year’s calendar is sponsored by the Deadwood Historic Preservation Commission, Deadwood Gulch Resort, Cadillac Jack’s Resort & Gaming, Four Aces and TDG Communications. Building a Citywas created by Anne Rogers. Layout by TDG Communications. Calendars are available for purchase at the Adams Bros. Bookstore, Adams Treasures Gift Shop and at: www.AdamsMuseumAndHouse.org. A complimentary calendar is included as a benefit of membership.
